Every year, we scout the city in search of the young individuals who we believe will become fantastic members of the KWL team.
Again this year, we plan to recruit 10 apprentices, providing them with the training and support to launch their careers.
In a year that has been filled with uncertainty for school leavers, we’re hoping that this opportunity will provide a great platform for local young people, just as it has done in previous years.
We have a range of vacancies on offer across the whole company: within the trade teams and administration.
Women in Construction
As we operate within a typically male-dominated industry, our objective is to encourage young women to choose construction as a career and we hope to receive applications from both males and females.
Previous apprentices
Whilst we believe the KWL apprenticeship programme is outstanding, you don’t just have to take our word for it.
James joined the team as one of our Apprentice Plasterers in 2016. He said:
“I really enjoy it – as an apprentice, we have lots to learn and we are given plenty of time and support to provide a quality service.”
Olivia, another Apprentice Plasterer and Tiler, joined KWL in 2019. She gave us her views:
“I much prefer the apprenticeship to studying at sixth form – the job itself is so satisfying – I look at my finished work and feel proud to have done it. If someone isn’t happy in their home, it affects their whole life, so improving their home environment is improving their life.”
“I would say to other school-leavers in my position, to just do it. If you feel you want to work in a hands-on job that is helping people, seriously consider the trades, it could be the best thing you do in your life.”
With a positive work ethic our apprentices create the foundations for a prosperous career.
Roger Grannon started out as an apprentice with Hull City Council and he is now our Chief Operations Officer: the sky really is the limit!
