Bert’s Promotion and His Role in West Hull Balcony Refurbishment

We are delighted that Bertie Griffiths has progressed in his career at KWL, advancing from Charge Hand to Assistant Supervisor. This promotion highlights the potential for growth within KWL and reflects Bertie’s dedication and skills.

In his new role, Bert is actively supporting supervisors and managers on a significant project refurbishing balconies for Council tenants in West Hull – his first assignment as Assistant Supervisor.

The balcony refurbishment in West Hull is part of a planned programme to maintain and improve council housing stock, benefitting residents by enhancing their safety and quality of living, while supporting broader neighbourhood regeneration goals.

Balcony renewals are one key element of these works, helping to ensure council housing remains safe, well-maintained, and visually improved. KWL’s Customer Liaison Team proactively communicate the repair schedule to residents in advance, enabling them to prepare for the work.

Bert’s journey to this role is a great example of personal and professional growth. Originally from Essex, Bert moved to Hull with his family for a better standard of living. As he shared in a previous blog, “Hull gives me a better standard of living than the South.” Since relocating, Bertie has built a great life here with his wife and young family, appreciating the affordable cost of living and friendly community.

With over a decade of carpentry experience, Bertie joined KWL after an informal chat and interview, quickly progressing due to his skills and dedication. He completed his Level 2 Carpentry qualification at college and quickly achieved Level 3 with KWL. Prior to his promotion, Bert worked on kitchen installations, property adaptations, and fire door replacements, supporting teams as Charge Hand.

Bert is enthusiastic about his future at KWL. He values KWL’s supportive work environment, salary, and pension plan – benefits he had not experienced in his self-employed days.

We look forward to seeing Bert’s continued success in his new role and the positive impact his leadership will bring to the West Hull refurbishment project.
