The Garths area of Bransholme in Hull is getting a significant upgrade as the KWL roof replacement scheme progresses faster than anticipated. Originally slated to take three years, the project is now expected to conclude in just over two. To date, 620 out of 920 roofs have been successfully replaced.
One of the key factors contributing to the accelerated progress is the efficient scheduling of roof replacements. Typically, roof replacement for a standard property takes just one day. Larger homes, such as five-bedroom houses, may require up to two days to complete, and a continuous block of four three-bedroom properties takes roughly four days to finish. This streamlined approach ensures minimal disruption for residents while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
KWL is working with local roofing contractors to complete this project. Embracing technology, the team uses drone cameras to inspect roofs, which negates the need for scaffolding, improving efficiency and safety.
Tenants are reportedly very pleased with their new, fully insulated roofs. Additionally, KWL prioritises the welfare of its workers by providing mobile, solar-powered welfare units. These units include a warm space for breaks, toilet facilities, and a drying room where workers can dry their clothing overnight, ensuring they have warm clothes during cold weather.
The roof replacement scheme involves several key steps:
Supervisor Dave Shillito and his team, along with Supervisor Chris Marritt, are instrumental in the roof replacement efforts. Despite challenges such as navigating privately owned homes within the council housing blocks and managing the removal of specialist materials, the team is making substantial progress, with residents staying in their homes throughout the process.
Drone inspections offer several advantages:
As the project continues, the transformation of Bransholme is becoming increasingly visible. The dedication of KWL and its partners ensures that residents will benefit from sturdy, long-lasting roofs for years to come.
