Build a Bug Hotel Competition 2024: Nurturing Young Environmentalists in Hull

In an era where environmental consciousness is more crucial than ever, it’s heartening to see young minds actively engaged in wildlife conservation. The KWL Build a Bug Hotel Competition 2024 has once again proven to be a resounding success, showcasing the creativity and environmental awareness of Hull’s young generation.

What makes these prizes extra special is their origin. All items were hand-made by Turning Corners, a remarkable local charity in Hull. This collaboration not only supports a worthy cause but also emphasises the importance of community involvement in environmental initiatives.

Building More Than Bug Hotels

The KWL Build a Bug Hotel Competition is about more than just creating homes for insects. It’s about building awareness, encouraging creativity, and instilling a sense of responsibility towards our environment in the next generation. By engaging in this hands-on project, students learn about biodiversity, ecosystem balance, and the crucial role that even the smallest creatures play in our world.

Organiser of the KWL Build a Bug Hotel Competition, Claire Good, Quality and Compliance Manager at KWL, says: “As we reflect on the success of this year’s competition, we’re filled with optimism for the future. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by the participants give us hope that the next generation will continue to champion environmental causes and find innovative solutions to the challenges our planet faces.

“We would like to thank all the schools, teachers, parents, and most importantly, the pupils who participated. Your efforts make a real difference, not just in providing homes for bugs, but in creating a more environmentally conscious community.

“Here’s to many more years of building bug hotels, fostering creativity, and nurturing young environmentalists in Hull!”
