Darren Glew Joins KWL as New Chief Operating Officer

KWL is pleased to announce that Darren Glew has joined the team as Chief Operating Officer, bringing extensive operational experience from the private sector to drive structured growth and enhance the organisation’s impact.

Darren arrives with many years of experience in manufacturing and business operations, having progressed from administrative roles to Operations Director in his previous positions. Throughout his career, Darren has focused on improving performance, financial efficiency, and process flows while creating strong relationships with contractors and stakeholders.

Since joining KWL, Darren has been actively engaging with the team – visiting operatives onsite, spending time with different teams at the head office, and meeting tenants to better understand their experiences.

Originally from East Hull, Darren’s personal connection to the city runs deep. “I grew up in the properties that we now support. My parents worked hard, and we lived in a council home that required attention over the years with various issues. Because of this experience, I understand the frustrations residents face, and this motivates me to improve the lives of local people.” Darren now lives in Hull city centre and values the vibrancy and diversity of the community.

Having spent most of his career in commercial B2B roles across different sectors, Darren purposely moved to KWL for its people-first approach and the visible difference it makes. “This is very different from what I’ve done before, and that really appealed to me. When the process is right and people are supported, we deliver a great service.”

Darren takes over the COO role from Roger Grannon, who now serves as KWL’s Interim CEO.

Under Darren’s leadership, KWL is poised for significant development. “KWL is very good at what it does, and the operational structure we have will work in any geographical area. The opportunities are here, and I feel I’ve joined at the perfect time to help drive progress.”

With Darren Glew on board, KWL is set for a future of focused growth and continued commitment to putting people first.

KWL is encouraging local young people to join the business. “When we welcomed this year’s apprentice cohort, Darren adds. “The Chair made it clear that construction is a career the world welcomes. Even if our apprentices decide not to stay at KWL, they will have the skills to get a job wherever they choose, but if they stay at KWL, the career opportunities are immense. Roger Grannon is an excellent example – he started his working life as an electrical apprentice for Hull City Council and is now Interim CEO of KWL. If people at KWL want to progress, anything is possible.”
