Getting Hull Ready to Vote: A KWL Team Effort

When election season arrives in Hull, most people only see the final moment – stepping into a polling station, casting their vote, and heading back out again. But behind the scenes, there’s a huge amount of work that makes that experience feel simple and seamless.

This year, KWL was pleased to once again support Hull City Council, helping prepare polling stations across the city and ensuring everything was in place for residents to vote with ease.

A citywide team effort

In the days leading up to polling, KWL operatives were out across Hull, travelling from site to site to deliver and install everything needed to get each station up and running.

From voting booths and signage to kettles and bottled water, every detail mattered. Each location had its own layout and requirements, and the team approached every setup with care, adaptability, and a strong sense of responsibility.

While the public may only see the finished result, the reality is a coordinated effort that relies on teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to go the extra mile – especially when working to tight deadlines across multiple locations.

What it takes to make it happen:

Although the turnaround is quick, the scale of the operation is anything but small. Across just seven days, the team:

• Delivered equipment to polling stations across the city

• Installed and positioned voting booths to meet accessibility needs

• Set up clear signage to guide voters

• Supplied essential items for polling staff, including water and kettles

• Provided mobile units where needed to ensure access to voting

Every element plays a part in creating a smooth experience for voters on the day.

The people behind the process

At the heart of it all is the team. Led by Senior Supervisor Nick Thewles, KWL operatives worked together to deliver the project efficiently and to a high standard.

Nick said:

“I would like to say a big thank you to the KWL operatives who made it happen. Their teamwork and positive approach ensured that Hull City Council’s elections team had everything required to deliver a smooth and efficient polling process.”

The teams professionalism and can-do attitude made a real difference in ensuring everything ran to plan.

Quiet work, lasting impact

It’s easy to overlook the preparation behind something like an election, but it’s this kind of behind-the-scenes work that keeps things running smoothly.

By working closely with Hull City Council and bringing consistency, care, and reliability to every site, KWL helps make sure that when residents arrive to vote, everything is exactly as it should be.

It may be quiet work – but its impact is felt across the whole city.
