Jamie Philipson

How long have you worked for KWL?

I started working with KWL in January 2015 as a freelance quantity surveyor.

What’s your role at KWL?

I’m a quantity surveyor and member of the Chartered Institute of Building with over 25 years’ experience working with medium-sized contractors throughout the Hull & East Riding area.

I head up the estimating and quantity surveying team, dealing with the pricing and the financial control of large construction and maintenance projects.

The position is very varied. I always see quantity surveying as a mixture of an accountant with a lawyer, but with technical construction knowledge. It also enables an individual to get out onsite and see projects developing, and interact with the different trades.

What do you enjoy the most about working at KWL?

KWL is extremely people focused and a forward-thinking organisation. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and the company supports an individual’s training and progression requirements.

What advice would you give to young people who want a job like yours?

I’d recommend any young person to consider a profession in construction, particularly with KWL.

As with all career paths, hard work and dedication will reap the rewards.
