Kristian Redmore

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Hedon but have recently moved to Kingswood.

What did you do before working at KWL?

I enrolled at Hull College to start my gas engineer apprenticeship after leaving school. When I qualified from college, I obtained my Level 2 and Level 3 City and Guilds qualifications.

I started out as an install engineer installing gas central heating systems, before taking up the role of a service and repair technician working on a variety of gas appliances.

How long have you worked at KWL?

I’ve worked for KWL for 6 years since serving my apprenticeship for a private firm.

What’s your role at KWL?

As a supervisor, I look after a team of operatives, apprentices and sub-contractors who carry out our gas servicing and repair work.

My job is to provide technical assistance and support to the operatives, survey jobs and prepare quotations for customers. I also carry out quality control checks and health and safety audits on a monthly basis.

What do you enjoy most about working at KWL?

It can be challenging at times, but that gives greater satisfaction once the tasks have been completed to the standards that are set by the company.
I work with a good group of people and have a great team, which always helps to make things run more smoothly.

What advice would you give to young people who want a job like yours?

I’d advise anyone looking to go into a trade to make sure they pick the right one for them. It’s important you enjoy your job as it’s a big part of your life and you spend a big portion of your time at work. I’d also advise them to be prepared to work hard, as being a tradesman can be challenging at times. Also, be prepared to continually develop and educate yourself as the learning doesn’t end once you’ve got your qualifications.
