This year, KWL has successfully completed a significant door installation project across low-rise blocks throughout Hull. The team installed 950 FD30 timber shed and service doors, substantially enhancing safety for residents.
The team has also replaced 200 composite doors citywide, to maintain high standards of safety and security.
Last year was equally productive, with 1,712 composite front and rear doors replaced across various properties.
The next phase of work will focus on sheltered blocks for elderly and warden-controlled tenants at Cherry Hinton, White Lees Court, Beecroft Court, Enfield Court, and Thornton Court. Approximately 30 flats per block will receive new timber FD30 front doors. These doors are designed with the specific needs of elderly residents in mind, many of whom use wheelchairs or walking aids. To enhance ease of use and safety, automatic swing-free closers will be fitted, ensuring the doors remain fully functional without compromising protection.
In addition to flat doors, the team will replace communal and service doors on each block, with around 45 door sets per block. These replacements involve additional complexity due to features such as security screens.
The team has been moving around Hull to work on each block of flats in turn. This requires careful planning between customers and the team. Coordinating this important work is Marina Pyman, Customer Liaison Officer. Marina is the primary point of contact for residents, providing support throughout the fire door replacement programme. Her responsibilities include facilitating team access to flats, managing resident enquiries, and monitoring project progress.
Paul Bird, Supervisor, explains: “Marina ensures effective communication between residents and on-site teams. Though customer-facing challenges do arise, Marina maintains clear communication and helps residents understand the benefits of KWL’s work, what will be happening, and when. This really helps to ensure the smooth workflow.
