Our Gas Supervisor, Mike Allitt joined Jon Hilton and 13 others, to take on the UK Three Peaks – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in The Lake District and Snowdon in Wales.
The team is raising money to support those who have helped Jon Hilton before, during and after the amputation of his lower leg.
Funds are being raised for Hull4Heroes Royal British Legion SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, Blesma, The Limbless Veterans – KWL was Mike’s main sponsor.
Mike and Jon have been friends since joining up for the British Army in 1995.
Jon had his left leg amputated below the knee on 13th Nov 2020 due to a blood clot caused by surgery from a military injury he sustained during service.
“This is going to be the toughest test both physically and mentally that I have ever undergone. It’s testing for an able-bodied person but for a recent amputee its gruelling. I will be looking for businesses to sponsor myself and the team (including my own wife and children) who will join me on the challenge.
“Raising money for charities is my goal however, I am hoping to inspire people to realise with the right attitude and mindset you can do anything regardless of your circumstances. We are only limited by out own minds, in the words of my hero Muhammad Ali: If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it then I can achieve it.”
Mike Allitt said
“I’m doing this to see my pal Jon through this challenge and personally challenge myself on behalf of some fantastic charities.”
“To see Jon achieve this tough challenge was amazing and sends message to anyone that has been through hard times, all things can be achieved if you focus your mind and set challenging goals.”
“It was tough for everyone involved, the weather closed in each day, we hardly slept due to nervous excitement and travelling long distance between the peaks all took its toll, but we are pleased to confirm the challenge was completed in 3 days.”
Photos and videos sent by Mike throughout, showed the emotional journey; summit beers were raised to remember comrades lost during and after their service in The Army and the team on the ground at KWL were behind the climbers every step of the way.
