Jack brings a wealth of experience and a passion for building that perfectly aligns with our commitment to quality and community.
A Journey of Experience and Adventure
Jack joined KWL from Barratt Homes, where he oversaw the construction of hundreds of new homes on the outskirts of Beverley. His journey in the construction industry began with a bricklaying apprenticeship at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. After gaining valuable experience, Jack took a break to backpack around Asia and Australia for 18 months, an adventure he fondly remembers.
While in Australia, Jack embraced the surf and the vibrant lifestyle, but his skills were in high demand, allowing him to find ample work opportunities when he returned to the UK. He also served with Humberside Fire and Rescue as a retained firefighter, balancing this role with his day job until he decided to focus solely on the building trade.
Climbing the Ladder in Construction
Jack’s transition from bricklayer to Site Manager was a result of sheer hard work, a keen interest in site management, and supportive roles as an Assistant Manager and Site Clerk. His ability to connect with people and demonstrate leadership earned him these promotions.
At KWL, Jack is responsible for building 27 homes and overseeing the work of almost 30 different companies involved in various aspects of the project, from civil engineering and drainage to construction and cleaning.
Why the KWL Homes Project?
Jack was drawn to KWL for several reasons. The timing was perfect, and he was impressed by the interview process and the team. After working for a large company that built over 60 houses annually, the local, community-focused aspect of KWL was particularly appealing.
“At KWL, employee development is a priority and we are provided with ample resources and opportunities for learning. The extensive training programmes and supportive senior management team creates an environment where employees can thrive.”
Embracing New Challenges
“I’m truly excited about the Matheson Close development. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to the cookie-cutter approach of larger builders. At KWL, we’re creating something special with our unique designs tailored specifically for this project. With just 27 properties in the pipeline, I’m expecting strong interest from buyers looking for something different. Of course, pioneering new designs might bring a few unexpected hurdles, but that’s what makes the job so interesting. My years in the industry have prepared me well, and I’m ready to tackle any challenges head-on. It’s this kind of innovative project that keeps me passionate about what I do.”
One of the innovative aspects of Jack’s role is working with Total Station, a GPRS system that provides precise coordinates for site layout. KWL’s investment in this technology allows Jack to enhance his skills and knowledge in engineering.
A Balanced Life
As a Site Manager, Jack must understand every aspect of the construction process to ensure quality and address potential issues. A civil engineering contractor will soon be on-site to install drainage, sewers, gas works, and foundations, marking the next phase of the project.
Jack values the potential that working at KWL offers. He enjoys being out on-site rather than behind a desk and appreciates the promising future of the firm. Being based locally is invaluable for Jack, a family man with his partner and two young children. He cherishes watching his children grow and participate in various activities, including swimming, a skill he hopes they will carry into their future adventures.
Looking Ahead
Jack Simpkin’s dedication, experience, and passion for building make him an invaluable asset to the KWL Homes project. We are excited to see the Matheson Close development take shape under his leadership and look forward to the unique homes that will soon be part of the East Hull community.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project and join us in welcoming Jack to the KWL family!
