In September, we were thrilled to welcome Shiloh, our newest Plumbing and Gas Engineering Apprentice, to the KWL family.
Shiloh’s journey with KWL began as one of 14 successful apprentices chosen from an impressive pool of 273 applicants in our 2024 cohort. His selection is a testament to his potential and aligns perfectly with our commitment to nurturing the next generation of construction professionals.
In the highly competitive plumbing and gas engineering field, Shiloh stood out among 60 applicants, securing one of only two available positions.
After completing his GCSEs at Trinity School in Hull, where he excelled in sports and mathematics, Shiloh now spends most of his week gaining hands-on experience at KWL’s work sites. Every Thursday, he attends Hull College, where he splits his day between practical training and theoretical studies. This balanced approach ensures Shiloh receives a comprehensive education in both the practical and academic aspects of plumbing and gas engineering.
Shiloh has hit the ground running at KWL, embracing the variety in his work. Currently paired with Nick, an experienced Gas Engineer, Shiloh is gaining valuable insights into installations. As the year progresses, he’ll also delve into adaptations and general plumbing repairs and maintenance, rounding out his skill set.
Outside of work, Shiloh is pursuing his driver’s license, with a test scheduled for August. He has a passion for boxing, honed at Vulcan Boxing Club. While he once considered a career in boxing, Shiloh found that the construction industry offered a better balance for his aspirations.
Nick, Shiloh’s mentor, is impressed with his progress and believes he has a promising future in the industry. This mentorship is crucial in KWL’s approach to developing skilled professionals who will contribute to both the company’s success and the wider community.
At KWL, we believe that supporting young talent like Shiloh not only ensures our company’s future success but also strengthens the communities we serve. Our investment in apprentices is an investment in the future of the construction industry as a whole.
We’re excited to see Shiloh’s career unfold and are confident that his journey with KWL will be filled with growth, learning, and achievement.
Watch out for stories about more of our apprentices as we approach the KWL Apprentice Open Day on 22 March. You can register for the event hereā¦
