What’s In-store Behind the Door?

Meet Marina, a dedicated member of the KWL team who has been an integral part of the organisation for most of her career.

Starting in 1997 in Building Services at Hull City Council, Marina’s career has been varied, and her current role as a Customer Liaison Officer at KWL showcases her passion for connecting with people.

Marina’s early career involved working in the office and on reception, where she developed strong relationships with her colleagues, some of whom she still works with today.

In 2007, Marina moved over to KWL, initially working on reception at the old building on Stockholm Road. Her experience as a receptionist allowed her to become familiar with everyone in the organisation. Subsequently, she joined the Electrical Team before taking on a new challenge when a supervisor went on maternity leave. This led her to her current role in Customer Services, where she actively engages with customers and collaborates with on-site teams.

The fire door replacement project

Currently involved in the fire door replacement project, Marina enjoys the variety her role offers. Whether it’s one-off projects or managing ongoing works, she relishes the unpredictability of her daily tasks. Her responsibilities include facilitating team access to flats, addressing customer enquiries, and monitoring project progress. Collaborating closely with Paul Bird, Supervisor, Marina ensures seamless coordination between customers and the on-site teams.

Despite the challenges that occasionally arise in customer interactions, Marina excels in her role through effective communication and a commitment to helping customers understand the benefits of KWL’s work. She appreciates the diverse range of people she meets and emphasises KWL’s broader role in providing not only building repairs and maintenance but also support from a safeguarding and social perspective.

KWL’s supportive work environment

Marina is grateful for the supportive work environment at KWL, highlighting the company’s commitment to the wellbeing of its employees. She praises KWL for going beyond a typical building repairs provider, recognising the organisation’s efforts in assisting customers with various needs.

On a personal note, Marina’s connection to KWL goes beyond her professional life—she met her husband, Jamie Pyman, through their shared work at KWL. Jamie, now the Gas Manager, initially joined the company 13 years ago as a Contract Manager. The couple has been happily married for five years and shares their lives with Marina’s daughter and Jamie’s two children, and all go on holiday together.

Hibernating

Outside of work, Marina admits to hibernating during the colder months, and looks forward to family holidays during the summer.

Marina is a testament to the positive impact of a fulfilling career at KWL, where professional growth, meaningful connections, and a supportive work environment come together to create a truly rewarding experience for employees like Marina.
